The Social Science pathway consists of three set programmes:
• Psychology
• Sociology
• Criminology
The study of Psychology focuses on what causes people to behave the way they do and studies what makes us who we are. The programme will cover a range of theoretical explanations psychologists use to understand human behaviour and experiences.
The study of Sociology involves the discussion and debate of a range of topical sociological issues. It is the study of people in society. However, the way that we define what we mean by society, determines how we can study it. Sociologists look at a range of social phenomena such as education systems, the family unit and religious beliefs.
The Criminology programme is the study of crime in forensic detail! Students will study different types of crime and public perceptions of different crime and review why some crimes go unreported. There will also be a review of a range of theories that allow you to gain an understanding of why some people commit crimes.
Entry requirements for our A Level programmes are a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 and above to include English and maths. Some courses may also have additional entry requirements. These will be discussed with you at your interview.
